about
Innovative women are redefining our relationship with carbon by repurposing living materials, reengineering waste into valuable chemicals that clean the climate, and driving decarbonization in our built environment. They share life/work challenges while thriving in male-dominated industries. Their collective wisdom comes together to form a singular belief and purpose to restore, protect and ultimately preserve the planet.
The secret lies in the Earth itself.
Told through a feminine lens, the story delves into the minds and spirits of dedicated, driven and dynamic 21st century trailblazers whose work is placing them at the core of decarbonization, human health and economic opportunity.

Basia Myszynski - Filmmaker / ProducersOlar eye communications My partner and I were captivated by the idea of making an environmental film from a building industry perspective. Our prior films intersected engineering, architecture, art and innovation. Yet I discovered throughout my research that I was most intrigued by problem-solvers, many of whom were exceptional women leading this climate action movement. As a female filmmaker working in a male-dominated industry, there was an immediate trust and common ground between us. These female innovators were calmly, creatively, and collectively finding solutions to decarbonize the built environment using diverse materials, manufacturing methodologies, tracking tools, and biotechnologies. Their focus was on reengineering natural resources and waste. The result: the “next generation infrastructure materials” (Srubar, CU Boulder). It was a unique perspective redefining our relationship with carbon.
These are the stories that I want to tell as well as the personal and frequently painful journeys to become influential women of science, the impacts of motherhood on their careers and choices and the intergenerational bonds that shape them. They are champions for environmental justice, gender equity and human health, and they are unstoppable. I believe that without gender equality and equity, there will be no climate justice. Most significantly, these trailblazers are transforming how society thinks about our planet and humanity.
Women of Carbon is about longing, discovery, sisterhood, and redemption. Our goal as filmmakers is to illuminate the urgency of the problem, stimulate compassion and provide viable solutions for a sustainable future.
